It’s trade deadline day in the NHL, and the Hurricanes also have a game to prepare for: tonight’s tilt against the Red Wings that will see captain Jordan Staal play his 1,000th career game.
Rod Brind’Amour spoke with the media Monday morning, here’s a full breakdown of everything he had to say:
On trade deadline day: I don’t know who’s names are bantered around, I don’t really follow it. I think in our case, when there’s really not much expected to happen, I don’t think it’s that big a deal in our locker room. I think with some teams it’s way different. I think obviously they’re in a little more different places, so they’re a little more apprehensive and what not, but I don’t sense that in our group.
On if he needs to see some reinforcements: I think we’re in good shape. We need to get healthy. I think that’s a big deal. We’re hoping that we’ll get healthy, so with that in mind, I think we’re in good shape.
On if he anticipates having the same team post deadline and if injured players are closer: That answer (injured players) no. That’s the concerning part, right? You envisioned having a full group, so you think ‘OK, we’re in good shape,’ but if you’re not, that’s where you maybe get some question marks. I envision us being the same group moving forward here.
On a starting goalie: [James Reimer] is playing tonight.
On how much of a concern it is to have Teuvo Teravainen out: That’s the big question mark. That’s the one, obviously. I think [Brock McGinn] will be back, so I feel good about that one. But Teuvo’s the wild card here. We need him back. We need him to turn the corner and say he’s ready to go. We’re banking on it, obviously, but having him back would really make things feel a lot better, that’s for sure.
On other lineup changes: Yeah, [Haydn Fleury]’s going to come in for tonight, and then [Jake Bean] will take a rest for tonight.
