The Carolina Hurricanes wrap up their season series with the Chicago Blackhawks tonight in the final regular-season home game at PNC Arena. The Canes didn’t get any help last night from the Dallas Stars, who fell 6-2 to the Tampa Bay Lightning. A loss by the Bolts would have given the Hurricanes a chance to clinch the division in tonight’s game, but now the best they can do is drop their magic number to one.

Carolina is coming off of a 6-3 win over the Blackhawks on Tuesday night, overcoming a very lackluster first period where they found themselves down 2-0. The Canes rallied with four unanswered goals en route to the win.

The Hurricanes are on a 12-game point streak (9-0-3), tied for the second-longest in the NHL this season, and the second-longest in franchise history. They can tie the franchise record of 13 games from March 9, 2017 through March 30, 2017 with at least one point tonight.

Game Notes

  • The SAT line has been on fire since the return of Teuvo Teravinen. Since his return, the line has played together in five games. In those games they have accumulated nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points.
  • Petr Mrazek’s return in net on Tuesday started off rocky, as he allowed two goals in the first period. But Mrazek shook the rust off and made 27 saves on the way to his 50th win as a Hurricane. Mrazek is now the franchise leader and the quickest to get to 50 wins, surpassing Cam Ward. Mrazek has played in 90 career games (50-31-7) and Ward did it in 96 games (50-29-10).
  • Sebastian Aho extended his point streak to nine games on Tuesday after he recorded two assists. It is Aho’s longest point streak of the season, and with his second assist on Tuesday he is now tied with Jeff Skinner for 11th in franchise history in assists (175).
  • The Hurricanes have a 5-2-0 record against the Blackhawks this season.
  • Andrei Svechnikov’s three points (2g, 1a) on Tuesday tied his career high of three points in a game. Svechnikov is also on a five-game point streak (3g, 3a).
  • As the Canes finish out their regular-season home schedule, they will look to add upon their 20-3-4 record at PNC Arena this season. Their .815 home points percentage is second in the NHL to only the New York Islanders (20-3-3 .827)
