The Carolina Hurricanes reportedly played better than they recently have but still lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning, 3-0 on Tuesday night. This game put an end to the less than optimal six game road trip and the team will surely look to rebound at home on Thursday night.

(I am out of town and did not watch this game. I am providing this recap based upon game sheets.)

The Bolts scored one goal in each period while the Canes were unable to solve goalie Jonas Johansson. Pyotr Kochetkov went the distance and made 20 saves on 23 shots in a losing effort for Carolina.

Sebastian Aho returned to the ice for this one. Brind’Amour must not have been concerned about his previous injury because Aho led all Carolina forwards with 21:05 of ice time.

The coach seemed to mix his lines liberally, probably trying to find some chemistry.

The Canes went 0-4 on the powerplay while the Lightning went 1-4.

They will look for redemption against the Kraken in a rematch on Thursday night.

Game Notes:

  • The Canes outshot the Bolts 32-23 and were led by Martinook who had four.
  • As mentioned earlier, Aho led forwards with his 21:05 of ice time. Slavin led defensemen with 22:49 followed closely by Orlov who had 22:22.
  • Chatfield had a team high two blocked shots with only 13 minutes and change of ice time.
