Hurricanes Put Antti Raanta on Waivers

The Carolina goalie has had a rough season so far and is currently sporting a .854 save percentage.

It seems the Carolina Hurricanes have made a decision to change things up in net this season.

It was announced earlier today that Antti Raanta was placed on waivers. The netminder is making $1.5 million this season on his one-year deal.

If he is claimed, the Canes would have to make an immediate decision to bring in a backup for Pyotr Kochetkov. Most likely that would be Yaniv Perets, who is currently playing in the ECHL.

Perets has a save percentage of .916 and a GAA of 2.35 for the Norfolk Admirals.

Or the Canes might be thinking of trading for a starter, especially since Fred Andersen is out for an undisclosed time frame with health issues.

If Raanta is not claimed, he probably won’t go anywhere for a bit, or at least not until the Canes acquire another goalie. But this is stage one in the process.

“Raants” is a good guy, a good teammate and it is a shame it turned this way but other players have had their careers turn around after they were placed on waivers. Maybe things will turn in a positive way for him.
