Game Preview: Capitals at Hurricanes

Carolina looks to get back on track against the Caps.

NHL: Nashville Predators at Carolina Hurricanes James Guillory-USA TODAY Sports

The Canes will hope to return to the win column in a Sunday evening matchup against the Washington Capitals in PNC Arena.

Carolina (16-12-2) gets back to it after a disappointing 6-5 OT loss to Nashville on Friday. The Caps (14-9-4), for their part, come to Raleigh on the heels of a 3-1 loss against the Predators just yesterday, so both squads will enter the contest looking to rebounding from a loss to the Preds.

Pyotr Kochetkov will take over in net after the Hurricanes waived Antti Raanta on Saturday. Raanta put up poor numbers in his 14 games this season with a 3.61 GAA and 0.854 save percentage ranking among the league’s worst.

The Canes hold a 3-4-1 matchup for the month heading into the second half of December, with many of those losses coming during a grueling six-game, 12-day road trip. Carolina will hope a restful Saturday will lead to a more energized showing in PNC Arena. On the flip side, they’ll face a similarly performing Caps squad with a 2-3-2 December record.
