Game Preview: Hurricanes at Penguins

Canes look to build momentum by beating Pens on the road

NHL: Vegas Golden Knights at Carolina Hurricanes James Guillory-USA TODAY Sports

The Canes will look to build some more momentum when it takes on the Penguins in Pittsburgh Thursday.

On the heels of a statement win against Vegas on Tuesday, Carolina (17-12-3) hits the road once more seeking to keep the ball rolling in its recent return to form. Despite a pair of overtime losses, the Hurricanes boast eight points in its last five games.

On the other end, the Penguins (14-13-3) have won three of their last four games, but with the caveat of some weak competition. Pittsburgh got the job done against Arizona, Montreal and Minnesota — all teams in the bottom half of their respect divisions — but those results were separated by a startling 7-0 to loss Toronto.

Carolina will hope to measure up well against Pittsburgh in this regard, emulating the Maple Leafs more so than the Coyotes, Canadiens or Wild. The Canes will also look to boost its meager 8-10-0 record on the road by getting a W in Pittsburgh.

An interesting tidbit: both the Hurricanes and Penguins are a perfect .500 in the month of December, posting records of 4-4-2 and 3-3-2, respectively.
