The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night, 3-2 at Scotiabank Arena.
Sebastian Aho had a goal and two assists to keep his point streak going. After two consecutive four point games, he now has 11 points in the past three games.
Pyotr Kochetkov made 25 saves on 27 shots and earned the win. The young goalie continues to play very well and would have had even better stats except for a goal scored by Toronto with just 10 seconds left.
He stretched to make an amazing glove save but his glove was eventually deemed to barely cross the goal line in replays and the goal was allowed.
Carolina’s special teams remains hot as the penalty kill did not allow a goal on three chances for Toronto and the powerplay went 2-4.
Michael Bunting scored the opening goal against his former team at 2:24 into the game, a powerplay tally. Aho fed him out front with a perfect pass.
Seth Jarvis would make it 2-0 midway into the second period with another powerplay goal, this time off a nice pass by Andrei Svechnokov.
Aho’s goal was an empty-netter with a minute and change left.
The win gives Carolina a 20-13-4 record and moves them into second place in the Metropolitan. They are 6-1-3 in their last ten games.
Next up will be the first place Rangers on Tuesday night.
- Svechnikov led the team with 6 hits and added two assists.
- The team had a rough night in the faceoff circle at 39% but it did not seem to hurt them.
- Brent Burns led the way with 22:17 of ice time.
