The Carolina Hurricanes were looking to change the script from their last two losses and started out strongly in the first period only to allow three straight goals in the third period as they fell to the Calgary Flames, 3-2 on Thursday night.
Bunting and Noesen had the goals for the Canes in the losing effort.
Just 2:10 into the game, Jack Drury won a draw to Jaccob Slavin who sent a shot toward the net. Noesen was able to tip it in to make it 1-0.
Six minutes and change later, Dmitry Orlov blasted a shot that hit Michael Bunting’s stick who was in front of the net and it was 2-0.
That would do it for the scoring for Carolina.
After a scoreless second period, the Flames came out on fire in the third and the Canes did not have an answer.
Post game quotes from Noesen and Martinook included the phrase “standing around”.
Brind’Amour mentioned that some players were not giving it all they had and they need to “look in the mirror”.
It does not seem like all is well in the room.
The coach will need to figure it out quickly. The Canes are now 0-3 on their road trip and will face a hot Vancouver team on Saturday night.
- Pyotr Kochetkov played well until the third. He ended up making 24 saves on 27 shots. His opposing goalie Dustin Wolf made 28 saves on 30 shots to earn the win.
- The Canes allowed another shorthanded goal. They lead the NHL in that stat and have allowed seven so far this season.
- Brent Burns had a team high 23:19 of ice time. Sebastian Aho was next up at 23:11.
