Game Preview: Ducks at Hurricanes

Well-rested Canes look to return to win column against Ducks

NHL: St. Louis Blues at Carolina Hurricanes James Guillory-USA TODAY Sports

The Canes will return to PNC Arena after a four-day break to take on the Ducks Thursday night.

Carolina (22-13-5) will seek to return to the win column after dropping a shootout loss to the Blues its last time out. On the flip side, Anaheim (14-25-1) comes to town on the heels of its first win of 2024, a 5-3 win at Nashville on Tuesday.

The Hurricanes still boast a hot streak going into tonight’s game, posting a 6-1-3 record in their last 10 games. As Carolina tries to close the gap between itself and the Metro-leading New York Rangers, a game in the friendly confines against a struggling Ducks squad presents a prime opportunity grab two more points.

The added rest coincides with game two of a six-game homestand for the Canes, who’ve played 23 of their first 40 games of the season away from home. Carolina ties with Florida and Calgary with the most road games played in 2023-24 going into tonight, prompting the much-welcome home stint for the Hurricanes.

With the added time to rejuvenate, expect Pyotr Kochetkov to return between the pipes against the Ducks.
