The Carolina Hurricanes will face the Los Angeles Kings in a special game today at the PNC Arena. The puck drop is at 3 P.M.

Before the game, the club will be inducting Justin Williams into their Hall of Fame.

We could go on all day talking about the accolades for Williams.

He is a three time Stanley Cup Champion, (twice with the Kings, once with the Canes). He has the nickname “Mr. Game Seven” and is known as one of the all-time best clutch players.

Williams has scored seven goals and notched eight assists in a total of nine “game sevens” and his team won eight of them.

I remember back when the Canes first traded for Williams.

At the time, the Flyers were in a bad way with several defensemen injured. Jim Rutherford took advantage of the situation when he offered up serviceable defenseman Danny Markov and ended up getting the future Carolina superstar in return.

Bally Sports South will begin coverage at 2 P.M. with a special feature. They will televise the ceremony.

In the meantime, there will also be a hockey game that the Canes will want to win.

These two teams are at the opposite ends of the current win/loss spectrum right now.

Carolina has earned points in their last seven games and has a 7-1-2 record in their last ten games.

After a hot start, the Kings have lost eight games in a row and have a 2-4-4 record in their last ten.

The Hurricanes should be charged up for this one.
