The Carolina Hurricanes return to a venue where they have not had much luck as they take on the New York Rangers in Madison Square Garden tonight.
Game time is 7 P.M. and the contest will be televised by Bally’s Sports South.
The lineup will remain the same for the Hurricanes except that Jesper Fast will need to sit this one out as he recovers from a high hit suffered in Toronto.
Rod Brind’Amour could go with seven defensemen tonight or he could insert Brendan Lemieux into the lineup to replace Fast. There was no morning skate today so nothing was said officially.
It is widely expected that Pyotr Kochetkov will start in net.
The Rangers are in first place in the Division and have a 7-3-0 record in their last ten games. Their overall record is 25-9-1 for 51 points.
The second place Hurricanes have a 6-1-3 record in their last ten with an overall record of 20-13-4.
The last time these teams met on November 2nd, the Rangers won, 2-1 in a tight contest.
During that game, Adam Fox and Sebastian Aho had a collision and Fox missed some time as he recovered from an injury.
Some among the New York media and fanbase blamed Aho for “taking out” Fox, but some video of the collision seemed to contradict that narrative. It appeared that Fox might have lost his edge as his right leg was extended.
Regardless, the Rangers could try to be even more chippy than usual.
It would make sense to have Lemieux in the lineup in case things get crazy.
